Today’s Ecclesiastes verse point out that God’s will is final, man cannot change it, and also that God’s design for us is for us to worship Him:
Ecc 3:14 And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him.
Throughout the eras of civilization, man has foolishly elevated himself to god-like status. Whether it was the emperor’s of the roman empires, today’s seemingly larger than life politicians, the worshipped and praised athletes or musicians, but these aren’t gods. They are fallible, just like us, we all live for a while and then we die. Meanwhile, God is forever. Furthermore, this factuality that we all come to an end, should make us fear God. As the text says; God’s purpose is that people should fear or in a more modern sense, worship Him.
The ups and downs that are in our lives that God has providentially put before us, like the birth of a child, or the sudden death of someone close to us, both the good and the bad, are designed by God to bring us closer to God; as the Word says: God’s purpose is that people should fear or worship God.
