Throughout Ecclesiastes Solomon goes over the various vanities of life.  Solomon was on that endless quest to find something that made him happy.  He tried it all, the arts, philosophies, and then excesses like wine and women and wealth, and much to his unhappiness, he couldn’t find fulfillment in any of those things.  Man’s insatiable appetite only left him wanting more.  After dabbling in all of these different vices, here’s what Solomon says on the subject of finding happiness and fulfillment: 

Ecc 5:18  Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life.

The last aspect of that verse reminds us to enjoy our lot in life, not to spend it envying others.  Envy is an easy trap to fall into, especially when there is so much sharing of our personal lives on social media.  

God’s word today reminds us to enjoy the things that God has put in our life for the short time that we are living it!
