Some words to live by in our Ecclesiastes today…rather than desiring fame and fortune, and always trying to get the “next best thing” God’s Word reminds us to enjoy what He has put in front of us:
Ecc 6:9 Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
There’s no point in imagining in having stuff and playing pretend when we likely aren’t going to get those nice things, instead we should be happy with what we have.
To quote the literary Character Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove, “If you want any one thing too badly, it’s likely to turn out to be a disappointment. The only healthy way to live life is to learn to like all the little everyday things”
In other words, we should learn to be content with what God has given us, rather than desiring things that we’ll never get.
