Wisdom vs Folly

A contrast between wise people and foolish people–

Ecc 7:4  The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, While the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure.

This shows us that wise people are aware of their own inevitable end.  That’s what funerals do, apart from mourning the dead, they also remind us that one day we too are going to have a funeral, if there is one thing for certain, it is that man cannot cheat death.

On the other end of the spectrum, fools want no part of funerals…thinking of their eventual death is too much for them, so when confronted with the idea of death, they turn away, and would rather party and laugh and live in good times.  In other words, avoidance behavior.

The truth is, we cannot avoid death, it comes for us all, “like a thief in the night” and we don’t know when either.  Many folks like to think about religion and God as something they will eventually get to on their own terms, if you have ever heard someone say “I’ll get right with God, when I’m ready” but what happens when death suddenly comes and they aren’t ready?

If you or someone you know is on the fence about this, remind them that Jesus is the only One who beat death, when He rose on the third day.  His empty tomb is evidence of that.  Death might come today, or next month or next decade, we don’t know when, but it is definitely coming…so submit your troubles to Him.  Trust in Him and obey Him because the only way to heaven is through Him.
