Today’s Word points out that we should be on guard against seductive women, which is actually really important, because even if we don’t cheat with our bodies, we still do it with our minds. In fact, advertising companies have caught on to this and use that mantra “sex sells” when they push their products out in the market place. There is a reason that NFL cheerleaders wear next to nothing when they are on the sidelines, or music videos feature scantily clad actors and actresses and so on…all of that is designed to appeal to our baser instincts and woo us into spending money.
If we cut to the chase though, this is all based on our fallen nature, our wandering eyes and minds, and that’s what Solomon talks about:
Ecc 7:26 I discovered that a seductive woman is a trap more bitter than death. Her passion is a snare, and her soft hands are chains. Those who are pleasing to God will escape her, but sinners will be caught in her snare.
Ecc 7:27 “This is my conclusion,” says the Teacher. “I discovered this after looking at the matter from every possible angle.
The Bible tells us “Those who please God escape the seductress but sinners will be caught in her snare”
Truer words were never spoken! Think about those who we know who have had that mid-life crisis and had their marriages ruined by cheating on their spouses…it ruins bank accounts and more importantly wrecks families. Texas Tech actually did a study on this, and it said, if a family is broken up by cheating, the children are twice as likely to do the same thing when they become adults. So not only when we cheat on our signficant other, does it ruin our immediate relationships, it also transcends generations, cheating on a spouse could likely result in our grandchildren growing up in broken homes too!
It’s not worth it, something to think on next time we find our minds, hearts and especially our eyes wandering, as Solomon said the juice ain’t worth the squeeze.
