Some very sensible wisdom in today’s Word that tells us not to put all our eggs in one basket:
Ecc 11:2 But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead.
This verse serves us in two different ways, first – we should not just give to one charity and then call it a day, which happens a lot, some folks say “oh I donate to this foundation, that’s plenty for me”
Paul in his second letter to Corinthians tells us Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 2Co 9:6-7
Special attention paid there to giving cheerfully and how it pleases God. Giving just for a tax-write off or to pat one’s self on the back isn’t cheerful giving.
Another use for today’s verse on dividing our investments, can also apply for having multiple rods in the fire in life. One pursuit can fail, so it is smart to have another to fall back on.
Tough times can hit at any time and it is good to plan accordingly.
