Almost done with the first chapter of Psalms, which is a short one…only 6 verses, but chocked full of truth that juxtaposes the righteous against the wicked…today’s verses continue the narrative of what becomes of the wicked;
Psa 1:5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.
Psa 1:6 For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
Jesus also speaks on this when He talks about the narrow path versus the wide path. The Narrow path is the life of obedience or trusting and obeying God, unfortunately…this is the road less travelled. It is much easier to give in to our fleshly appetites, and in today’s world of instant gratification, where just about everything is ON DEMAND, a lot of folks live to please themselves, rather than living to please God.
But those who follow God, the word says, The Lord watches over their paths. He is our refuge, and He is there to comfort us when we are facing dark times. As a quick aside, the challenge we face as Christians is to always be in fellowship with God through prayer and obedience, not just going to Him when something bad happens.
The verses ends with pointing out that path of the wicked leads to destruction. The wicked may think they have a good life in there here and now, and much to our dismay, sometimes it does indeed seem like wicked people prosper…but God has the final say over everything, whether it is in this life or the next one, and as the Word says He watches over the Godly, but the wicked are bound for not just trouble, but destruction.
So rather than giving into our desires, it is better to trust God and Obey Him.
