Great stuff today in the Psalms that tell us that we find our relief exclusively in God.
Psa 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.
When the cares and worries of life start eating at us, rest and sleep is the furthest thing from our minds.
There is all sorts of stuff out there to worry about…Coronavirus, health scares, interpersonal relationships, fighting on social media, the list of things that can keep us up at night worrying is truly endless!
Today’s Pslams declares that God grants us peace, and in Him we can get that elusive good night’s sleep because God and God alone will keep us safe from the troubles of the world.
Say we have gotten some really bad news about our health…like we have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. That is definitely cause to keep us awake at night and not feel very safe. But when we surrender the troubles to God, and look at this in the scope of eternity, the life that we are in might end prematurely, but the life that comes next with God is eternal.
Think of our lives as someone who is traveling, they start out on on the West Coast of California, and hypothetically, their final destination is The Atlantic ocean on the East Coast. The time it takes that is travelled between the west coast and The East Coast is like our lives. Some of us are gonna hit the East Coast before the others, but the final destination is still the Atlantic Ocean! When our lives are cut short, that just means that God has decided to put us on the East Coast faster than others, but the end result is still the same.
Of course that worldview requires submitting to God’s authority, that our lives are all going to come to an end, and it will be on God’s terms, not ours. To better grasp this and to come to an understanding of the character of God, He has given us His revelation of Himself to us through His Word, or the Bible, reading that, meditating on it and praying to Him helps to guide us through these brief storms of life which are but bumps in the road to our final destination.
