What The Bible Say About Bragging – Psalms 5:5  The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes

We get some great insights into the character of God today, specifically what God does not like:

Psa 5:4  For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil dwells with You.

Psa 5:5  The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity.

Psa 5:6  You destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.

Summing that up, God hates people who do evil, and He detests people who lie and hurt others and today’s kicker, He doesn’t like people who brag…yikes!

Not sure if you have ever been social media, but there are entire platforms that are built on bragging, bragging about themselves, bragging about their kids, their school, their football teams…that is seemingly what drives today’s culture; one upping one another as to who is living their best life now, and making sure everyone sees how good they are doing, in essence…bragging!

God’s Word today cautions us against that!  We can try and explain these actions away in our own minds, just like we can with other things that Psalms lists today, like hurting others and lying, but bragging is just as detestable to God as those other things.  The only thing we should be bragging about is God, who was generous enough to send His Son into the world to die on our behalf so that we could be made right because we always fall so short of His holy standard!

An important reality check for us who even do the occasional “humble brag” on Facebook!
