The Word today reminds us that God will always triumph over evil, in fact – it’s not even close!
Psa 9:3 My enemies retreated; they staggered and died when you appeared.
This just underscores how awesome God is. In the last 40 years or so, we have watched movies that are full of CGI affects and epic battles, but David declares today that there was no Great War, God simply appeared and his enemies faltered.
We read about this in Thessalonians too, when the coming AntiChrist appears— 2Th 2:8 Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming.
Just because we saw some grandiose battle in a Marvel movie, doesn’t mean that’s how the actual divine forces of good will triumph over evil. There is no equal footing, God is supreme and the wicked as The Word say, stagger and die when God appears.
All throughout the Bible when we read of those who have actually encountered God, it transcends anything that the human experience can produce. When Isaiah saw God the first thing he said was “I am unclean”. Or when the Glory of the Lord appeared before Israel, everyone fell on their faces, reason being God is so magnificent that man cannot even bring himself to look at God, which should give us a realistic view of ourselves and an overwhelming awesome view of God, who will smash down His enemies. Also, it is pretty scary thing to be on the wrong side of God, a good reminder to trust and obey Him so he doesn’t consider us an enemy!
