Veering off from today’s Psalms since it is Christmas Eve and heading into Luke where we learn the real reason for the season. While Christmas and the Holidays in general seems to be focused on Santa Claus and Christmas sales and layaways, let us look at what should be at the forefront of our minds when think Holidays or Holy Day.
Luk 2:11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!
Luk 2:12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”
Luk 2:13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
Luk 2:14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
The angels in heaven looked down on this tiny baby born in the most meager of circumstances, a manger, a trough that animals eat out of, and declare that this birth glorifies God in heaven, God who is merciful and has offered us a path toward redemption via His Son, out of our sin. That is the peace that the Bible is speaking of, the sin and the bad stuff that we do causes enmity with God, because we are breaking His laws, but the redemption through Jesus takes those sins away, and also takes away God’s wrath towards us, our sin makes us dirty, but trusting in Jesus and following Him and repenting of our sins makes us clean and that is only possible because of Jesus, nothing that we bring to the table, it is all Jesus’s doing, not Santa or Mrs Claus or some elf or a 40 percent holiday sale. So let’s remember that Jesus, is the real reason for the season, and He is our great mediator that takes away God’s anger and give us peace with God, but only through Jesus.
