Good word in our Psalms today that reminds of how our blessings exclusively come from God:
Psa 16:2 O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
Unpackaging this, The Word says, You are my master, you are at an infinitely higher station that I am. We think how we behave when some VIP is around and how we behave…maybe we meet a celebrity like an athlete or a Governor or President, we tend to act differently around that person, we know “hey there is someone important in the room” and we almost become star struck or awed by their presence.
At the end of the day, those are still just people, people who carry the same sin that we do, but we still kind of shy away, and just behave in a different manner when someone important is in the room…now multiply that by a billion, that’s how infinitely higher God is than any of these famous celebs…The Word says you are my Lord, in that we are low, and God, You are way way up there, it is a master/servant relationship. God, you are up high and we are down low.
The verse continues “My goodness is nothing apart from you”….man foolishly likes to think that he has a say in the outcome of events, rich people like to think “I am a self made millionaire”…look at what I did or what I own? I created this”. Which is foolish, God allowed you to have that, just as God allowed us to be born…so when we encounter good things in our lives or blessings, let’s remember them for what they are blessings from God, good things that God put in our lives. So next time something good happens in our lives, let’s not rush to pat ourselves on the back, like the self-aggrandizing-self-made-millionaire does, but instead praise God because He did that, not us.
