Psalms 17 -Petitioning The Lord Through Prayer

Today’s Psalms is actually a prayer from David and shows us how we should petition God with our prayers and requests:

Psa 17:1  A prayer of David. O LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips.

When we go to God in prayer, we should approach His throne honestly.  As we learn in Proverbs 21:2 – The Lord weighs the heart, there is no deceiving God, we can trick other people, but there is no fooling God, so first and foremost when we go to Him in prayer, it should be from honest lips.

If we are completely honest, we will go to Him with our sinful burdens too because none of us is without sin either, fortunately for us as Christians, Christ is our great mediator who died for our sins, and those sins that we confess and repent from, are taken away when we put our trust in Christ’s work on the cross, and take up our own crosses and follow Him.
