Wednesday Devotional For March 16, 2022

Good stuff in the Psalms from David today that shows that God’s divine intervention on David’s behalf causes others to yield to David’s authority.

Psa 18:44  As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me.

Psa 18:45  Foreigners lost heart and came trembling out of their fortresses.

The tables have certainly turned for David, he was once being hunted down and now David’s reputation seems to supercede him, people hear about David and think wow, this is that guy and surrender to David without even putting up a fight.

But again, rather than taking the credit – and saying “look at me, I’m all that”  David praises God, rather than himself in the following verse:

Psa 18:46  The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation—

David’s affection isn’t for himself, he is not vain, staring at himself and taking selfies trying to promote how much better he is than these foreigners who surrender to David, instead David gives God the glory when he calls the Lord God of my salvation, in other words, David is telling us, I didn’t do that, God saved me…not making it about himself, but rather giving God the thanks and praise.
