Today’s Psalms presses on with David talking about the expanses of the heavens, so when we hear the pronoun “they” David is referring to space, or the realm that exists beyond earth, like the moon, stars, skies, and sun.
Psa 19:3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard.
The heavens don’t need to communicate like animals in nature do or speak the way we humans communicate with one another, the harmony in which the the moon pulls the tides out and in, or the sun gives light to the various plant life to survive is done without a sound, it happens at the hand of God.
Despite this incredibly efficient silence that these synchronicities operate within, the mere presence of the sun, moon and stars speaks for itself.
Psa 19:4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
The existence of the sun speaks for itself, without God giving us sun light, and different seasons, or a gravitational pull so that the tides don’t flood the lands, we would be in a pretty rough state! We would be extinct, our survival is based on these elements!
These are things that we often take for granted, we just assume that the sun will come up each day…and also set so we don’t burn to death! Yet without these marvelous wonders that God has created, we would be dead, we’d either burn to death or freeze to death, but we certainly wouldn’t be able to live with too much or not enough sun.
So as David reminds us in the opening verse of Chapter 19, the heavens tell us of the Glory of God, declaring the work of His hands. A perfect universe that could only exist by divine creation, man can’t recreate it, let alone understand it! Thousands of years later, and each generation has a new discovery about the solar system that we never knew, yet God figured it all out and created it in just 6 days!
