Get some great insights into God’s righteous judgements today in our Psalms:
Psa 19:9b The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.
Psa 19:10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much pure gold; Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
God’s judgements or His decisions are true, honest and holy. There are no falsehoods in God’s verdicts on humanity.
Going back to the old days of Moses, when someone sinned, or violated God’s commands, they had to make a sin offering depending on how much money they made. If you were well off, you’d sacrifice a bull, but if you were struggling financially, the required sacrifice could be two turtle doves. These sacrifices were like penalties that you paid to make right the debt that your sin against God built up.
Enter the New Covenant and Christ becomes the Ultimate Atonment, He becomes the sacrificial offering that takes away all of the world’s sins; think that verse “Behold, lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”
The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death, or sentenced to eteneral punishment for sinning against God and break God’s laws. Just like we would go to jail for robbing a bank, in a biblical framework, we are also held accountable before God for our deeds, and the penalty for sin is death, so what can take the sin away? A sacrifice, and Christ is the ultimate sacrifice, God sends His Son into the world to be die so that we can be spared his wrath. It’s like being on death row and headed to the electric chair, and then that 25th hour phone call from the Governor comes in pardoning the inmate and setting them free. Christ sets us free from the debt that our sin has piled up!
So when today’s verse tells us that God’s decisions are finer than gold and tastier than sweet honey, that just points out that even the most succulent earthly pleasures of this world, do not compare with the relief that washes over us when we know that our sins are forgiven. Gold and Honey are temporary, you eat it or spend it and then it’s gone, but an eternity in hell is forever, which makes God’s gift of His Son so much sweeter to us when it spares us that eternity in hell and gives us eternity in Heaven when we put our trust in the Gospel, that Jesus came and died for us sinners, called on us to stop sinning and the fact that Jesus rose on the 3rd day.
