Psalms 19:13 – A Prayer Against Pride

Good warnings against being “too sure” or overconfident in today’s Psalms, this was Adam and Eve’s main transgression in the Garden, they knew they weren’t supposed to eat the fruit, but in their foolish minds, they explained away God’s command and ate anyhow, which is something that we  too can succumb to…so here’s David prayer asking God to guard him from being too overconfident and arrogant:

Psa 19:13  Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.

David is saying, Lord if you stop be from indulging in these prideful sins, I will be declared innocent of even greater sins.  That’s the problem with pride, we foolishly think we are smarter than God’s laws, and when we do that, we become God in our own minds, and putting ourselves on an equal playing field with God is going to result in God humbling us, which is just what happened in the Garden of Eden.

God is up there, and we are down here; and today’s Psalms is a great reminder of why we need to submit to God’s authority and not become presumptuous or overconfident, because if there is one thing that angers God, it is pride and it is a scary, scary thing to fall into the hands of The Living God, so when we pray, let’s pray against being prideful.
