If we ever needed proof that the Bible is the ultimate standard of truth, we get it in today’s Psalms, again certain details surrounding Christ’s death are predicted with haunting accuracy, keeping in mind here that David is giving these Psalms 1000 + years before Christ died on the cross, so what David is saying, is actually what Christ is going to say when He is crucified a millennium later:
Psa 22:14 My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me.
Psa 22:15 My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead.
Psa 22:16 My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet.
If we look at that text that David’s writing, it sounds like he originally wrote it when he was running away from his enemies like Saul or Absaolom but then we get into the specifics
Psa 22:16 My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet.
They have pierced, which is exactly what happened to Jesus, He was literally pierced when they drove nails into Him on the cross, we have various disciples recalling this after it happened in around 33 AD.
So we have David, who writing this prophecy, or prediction that was 100% accurate, which was given to David by the Holy Spirit, because all scripture is inspired by The Holy Spirit, and David correctly forecasts the anguish and agony that Christ was enduring, which is the central thrust of all the Bible, the fact that Jesus died for our sins, now while His death is certainly very sad, and should arouse our sympathies, the Good News is, or the Gospel is, He rose up on the 3rd day, and when we put our trust exclusively in Him, we will join Him in the life that comes after the one we’re living now.
