Psalms 22 Verses 22 – Christ’s Second Advent

As we’ve been pressing forward through Psalms 22, it is a pretty dark Psalms in that it really gets into the nitty gritty specifics about Christ’s death, being pierced, being mocked, being afraid…scary stuff for sure, but as we segue into the 2nd half of Chapter 22 of the Psalms, we move Into what is His Second Advent, or His glorious return and reign, and as such, the Psalms takes on a much more celebratory tone:

Psa 22:22  I will tell of Your name to my brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.

In Christ’s return or the 2nd coming, Christ will tell of Israel how glorious God is who saved Him, and made Christ King of Kings.  IF we think about this, that is certainly something only God could do.  We look at Christ’s final moments, it is hard to get lower in life that being inhumanely executed by being nailed to a cross, and in Jesus’s last couple of breaths, He is pleading to God.  God takes Christ who was being punished for our sin in the most horrific of ways, and then elevates Christ above all of humanity!  Even though the Second Coming has not yet happened, Christ is still clearly even today, 2000 years later, the most important figure in all of human history!  His martrydom has been studied, worshipped an is the foundation of most civilizations for centuries…only God could do something that awesome, taking someone from the lowest station in life, and elevating Him to the highest heaven in the afterlife!

So when the Psalms says, I will tell of your name to my brothers, or Israel, and in the midst of the church, I will praise you Lord, Jesus is saying, My return is at your hand, and only You, Lord could do something that amazing, all these years later!
