It is certainly easy to flap our gums in today’s culture, social media platforms are driven by user engagements, or the comment section of a story, and the media likes to frame stories in a way that trigger our emotions, or get us riled up to give our “hot-takes” and the more controversial the take, the more likes that comment gets, it is like a shot of dopamine to the brain! There is a certain “high” that we get when we engage with others online and they comment on our posts or react to the opinions that we share.
On the other hand, we have probably all gotten into arguments online too and been embarrassed by them. Arguing on social media today is just like two people screaming at one another in a crowded theatre with the masses watching. It can be jarring for sure!
Fortunately, God’s Word gives us the blue print on how we should control our speech in today’s Proverb:
Pro 17:27 A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.
Pro 17:28 Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.
The wise person uses few words, and even when a fool keeps their mouth closed, they are considered smart! The best way to let everyone know how foolish we are, is to open up our mouths. Some sage advice indeed that comes from the Mouth Of God that can keep us out of trouble, especially when it is so easy for our mouths to get us into trouble via social media!
