Proverbs 23:9 – The Fool Hates Being Corrected

Here’s one in the Proverbs today that tells us that a foolish person, or a wicked person hates correction:

Pro 23:9  Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.

One of the biggest reasons people hate religion and Biblical Christianity is that the Bible forces people to confront their sin and deal with their shortcomings.  We has humans want to “have our cake and eat it too” or not repent from our sins, because we love sinning so much.  This modern truism only makes today’s Proverb that much more sensible, we like people who tell us what we want to hear, but when someone confronts us with the errors of our ways, if we are foolish and egotistical, we will hate that person correcting us, just as the Proverb says, the fool will despite the wisdom

The ultimate source of Wisdom is found in God’s Word, that is the finite standard of what is right and what is wrong, there’s a lot happening in the world these days that violates God’s Word, and when folks are confronted with that reality, they recoil like a snake would, it is like sunlight to a vampire!

Now we can point the finger at others and think they we have it right and they’ve got it wrong, but as Christ says, let he who is without sin cast the first stone, well that’s a rhetorical statement that answers itself, none of us are without sin, fortunately we have a way forward from that sin through the Gospel that shows us the errors of our ways and conforms us each day closer and closer to the only One who is was without sin, Jesus Christ.
