Yesterday’s Proverb told us not to celebrate when something bad happens to our enemies, while today’s Proverbs tell us specifically what we should do for our enemies, and it’s not about revenge:
Pro 25:21-22 If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the LORD will reward you.
So that’s breaking down that if we see someone who did something bad to us, help them..don’t hurt them. It actually presents a great Gospel opportunity for us, just as Christ’s work on the cross reconciles us to God, so do these opportunities present us with a way to reconcile or make nice with our enemies.
Chances are if someone who hates us is going through hard times, when we lend a helping hand, they’ll remember it, we might even become friends with that enemy.
The word says it will bring shame upon our enemies, as in, they see that you aren’t such a bad guy after all, and will cause them to rethink their negative ways toward you
So if we see our enemy broken down in some way, we are to try and help them out, our good actions point out their shame & God will see it and reward us per today’s verses.
In other words, don’t celebrate when your enemy stumbles, stop what we are doing and lift them back up.
