Two key verses in today’s Proverbs warn us against being proud of our own way of thinking:
Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.
Pro 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
Often the secular world that we live in tries to use man made logic and rationalization to justify sin:
“oh they were born that way” or “he acts like that because of what happened in his past” or “we stopped loving each other”
These excuses are just modern, man made ways to explain away our sin, in essence, being wise in our own eyes, and using our own failed psychology and logic to justify our missteps that go against God’s law
However, in our day of judgment, these excuses will not fly before God, as Christ warns us in Matthew when he tells the Pharisees, “I never knew you, depart from Me you lawless ones”
We must always remember the central truths of The Gospel: Trust in God, not ourselves, confess our sins, and stop committing those sins!
