Some beautiful parallels in the Old Testament found in our Proverbs where the subject is wisdom to the New Testament which focuses on Jesus:
Pro 8:34 “Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at my doorposts.
Pro 8:35 “For he who finds me finds life And obtains favor from the LORD.
Pro 8:36 “But he who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death.”
There in Proverbs the subject is wisdom, the one who finds wisdom which is living in fear of God, finds favor from God, but the one who spurns wisdom and chooses to mire in sin, has death to look forward to.
So it the case with Jesus, those who believes in and listen to Jesus will live forever as Christ tells us in Joh 5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
We are spared God’s wrath for our sins through Christ, because Christ became the Substitionary Atonement for our sins, He bore our wrath on the cross, and Jesus says in that single verse that those who hear Jesus’s Word are passed out of death and into life, or are pardoned for our sins, just like the Proverbs spells out, For He who finds me, finds life and obtains favor from the Lord. Trusting in Jesus takes out the the bad book, and puts us into God’s favor.
