Proverbs 11:2  — Pride leads to disgrace

Good Word that warns us against being proud or too in love with ourselves in the Proverbs today:

Pro 11:2  Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Two different paths with 2 very different results, pride equates to disgrace while humility brings wisdom.

Very poignant stuff here as it relates to the digital world we are in where we are constantly propping ourselves up through social media be it bragging about what we own, what we did or what our family did, basically putting ourself up on a pedestal saying, look at me, look at how good I am, look at what how much better I am than every one else…that is pride, and today’s word says that kind of living brings disgrace.  God hates pride, James 4:6 tells us “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.”

God brings down the proud, we take it back to David and Goliath, one of the most famous Bible stories there is, Goliath was the big and ferocious Phillistine and he was certainly very proud, arrogant and boastful.  He didn’t let anyone in the room forget about how big he was, and God used David, a humble vessel with a sling shot, to bring him down without even engaging him face to face.

Hitler was another example, he was very proud of his ancestry and thought he would take over the world, only to cowardly hide out in an underground bunker in his final days and kill himself rather than face his enemies.

God humbles the proud, but someone like David who was a righteous and God-fearing servant, God gives grace and wisdom too.  Despite the temptations to chase clout and puff up our chest about some meaningless accomplishment, let us remember to be more like David and less like Goliath, because God blesses the lowly but hates and humbles the proud.
